In order to become a Banteay Srei member, you must be a young Southeast Asian woman between the ages of 14-19 that lives in or around Oakland. Special exceptions can be made, just contact us! Download the application form.
SREI (Self Reliant and Empowered Individual)
Tuesdays from 4-6, this program is offered every other month for 4 weeks at a time and varies on topics. SREI is a space to learn, ask questions and share your knowledge about: sex, women's health issues, overcoming violence, healthy and unhealthy relationships, communication and self empowerment self empowerment.
SAUCE (Southeast Asian Unity through Cultural Exploration)
Banteay Srei's traditional Southeast Asian Cooking class, we meet every week at SOL. Each month we have a guest cook that teaches us how to make delicious dishes from scratch. SAUCE participants will go on garden and farm tours, harvest fruits and vegetables, and learn about sustainable and local foods.
HOLGA (Hopes, Obstacles, Love, Gratitude, And…)
Once a year for six weeks, Banteay Srei members can participate in a story telling and photo documentary project. Members are checked out holga cameras and given 120 film to photograph with. You’ll learn how to use your camera, load in film, and tell a story through photography. At the end of the project, there will be a gallery show to exhibit your amazing work! GO! (Girls Outside)
Go! is Banteay Srei's outdoor summer program that focuses on leadership development and team work. Each year's summer activity is different, in the past we've gone backpacking, horseback riding, rock climbing, hiking and camping.
BONG SREI (means ‘Older Sister’ in Cambodian)
Banteay Srei’s programs are supported and facilitated by past Banteay Srei participants. Bong Srei’s are given stipends for their commitment to organizing, recruiting and running Banteay Srei programs. In addition, Bong Srei’s are taken on weekend retreats twice a year to train and plan for upcoming program activities and also to debrief and evaluate programs.
